UN Probe, a pretext for regime change in Sri Lanka - Wimal Weerawansa

June 18, 2014 Daily News: Minister Wimal Weerawansa tells Parliament
NAYSAYERS, GREATEST BETRAYERS" Protect hard won peace. The victory over terrorism brought protection not only to a single family but to the entire country, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa in Parliament yesterday.

He also said if Parliamentarians do not stand against the move to hold an international investigation against Sri Lanka to investigate the final stage of the humanitarian operation against terrorism, that would become the biggest betrayal in Sri Lanka's history.

"It would amount to an act of treachery," he said.

Minister Weerawansa made these observations joining the debate on the motion moved stating that the investigation against Sri Lanka mandated by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights should not be allowed. The motion was moved by nine members including UPFA MP Achala Jagodage.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa stated that the benefits of the victory over terrorism are equally enjoyed by all who stood for and against the operation.

He added that the UN is attempting to take the Security Forces and the leader of this country before an international tribunal by investigating only the last stages of the humanitarian operation against the terrorists.
